Specializing in construction, maintenance, and emergency repair, Damage Controlmen protect and enhance the performance of the Coast Guard's vital shipboard and shoreside resources.
Damage Controlmen assigned to the Coast Guard's buoy tenders, river tenders, and cutters throughout the world are responsible for maintaining all shipboard plumbing devices, ensuring watertight integrity, and testing and securing emergency equipment used for chemical, biological, and nuclear detection and decontamination. Those Damage Controlmen assigned to shore stations are charged with a full range of interior and exterior construction and repair duties, including completing all aspects of facility renovation projects.
